Motor Neurone Disease Research Tissue Bank of Victoria (mndRTBv)

This bank is a repository of fluids (blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)) and brains and spinals cords obtained from people diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). From these samples, the neuropathologist is able to confirm diagnosis of the illness. More importantly, these samples will be used for research purposes including the development of diagnostic kits for early detection of this disease and for the studies that will provide better understanding of what causes this disease. This bank is an Australia-wide resource for clinicians and researchers engaged in the search for a cure for this disease.

The mndRTBv is linked to the Australian Brain Bank Network (ABBN). The ABBN is a collaboration between tissue resource centres across Australia to optimise collection, handling and use of brain and spinal cord tissue samples for the conduct of research into neurological and psychiatric disorders.

The mndRTBv is funded by the MND Research Institute of Australia and the Bethlehem Griffiths Research Foundation.

The mndRTBv would like to acknowledge the MND Association of Victoria for their continued support.
